What exactly is a burl?
A burl is a growth on a tree where the grain has grown in a deformed manner. It is commonly found in the form of a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk or branch that is filled with small knots from dormant buds. Burl formation is typically a result of some form of stress such as an injury or a viral or fungal infection.
Many of our products are made from burls. Each burl is different from the next. When seen on a tree, one might think it ugly, but they can in fact make beautiful pieces of art. We love to find a good burl and dream of what it will become!

Our Process:
Every item used is selected for its quality and uniqueness. The wood is aged or kiln dried, and then brought into the shop to begin its transformation. We use various methods and combinations for each creation. Some of the methods used include, plaining, sanding, a patching treatment, and the addition of one of our finishes. While some of the designs may be repeatable, the finished product is always unique. We have our own kiln and sawmill, so everything can be done in house.
The Designers:
Ron Woodward is the owner and main designer for Of Burl & Board. Always having a love for the outdoors and creating things with his hands, he was inspired to begin making tables as a hobby after his retirement. After making a few tables, the work branched out to include charcuterie boards, and many unique décor items. There is no limit to his creativity!
This business is a family affair! Lauren (Of Willow & Jade) offers consultation for dimensions and designs, if needed. She also loves making charcuterie boards, lamps, coasters, and earrings.

Tables & Benches
Our tables are made from various types of wood. They are aged or kiln dried before being cut to size and sanded. We acquire many of our table bases at local estate sales. This adds to the unique character of each piece. We also have some legs and bases that are in stock that can be reordered.
Charcuterie Boards

Our charcuterie boards are made from various types of wood, and poured with resin colors to compliment the tone of the wood. Handles are chosen from our collection of antiques, retail, and estate sale finds, which means that some of them can be repurchased, while others are one of a kind! They are sealed with a food grade poly, and cured for at least a month to be safe for use.
Why have fancy meats and cheeses on a plain board, when you can have something eye-catching?! Need a size, color, or shape that you don't see? Just send us an email and we can create a custom board for you!
Lamps
Our lamps are one of a kind! They are made from various types of wood. Each piece is carefully designed and constructed. While there may be some offered as pairs, they will still not be exactly the same! Lamps are a great way to add interest and warmth to any space!
